Task 1: Exploration & Organization
Exploration: This initial task introduces children to a variety of different manipulatives. They use them with few guidelines and explore the manipulatives in whatever way they wish. More importantly, it provides an opportunity for the teacher to introduce the procedure that will be used as students complete the tasks and helps the teacher do some observational assessments.
Organization: This is the time to demonstrate to students how to collect their materials, choose a place to work as well as how to clean up and store materials. Use this week to introduce a center chart for math materials.
